The Girls' Brigade

badge

2nd. Maidstone Girls' Brigade – 1958 - 2009
"Seek, Serve & Follow Christ"

The Girls' Brigade is an international Christian organisation for girls and young women
aged between 5 - 18 years.

The 2nd Maidstone Company meet at Maidstone Baptist Church
on a Tuesday evening during term times
(access to the church halls is through the church car park in Knightrider St.).

The girls meet in four sections :

Explorers - aged from 5 - 8 year (5.30 - 7.00pm)
Juniors - aged from 8 - 11 (5.45 - 7.15pm)
Seniors - aged from 11 - 14 years (7.15 - 9.15pm)
Brigaders - aged 14+ (7.15 - 9.15pm)

On a regular meeting night the girls will be able to work for badges or
take part in another activity, do some craft, play games, have lots of
fun, make new friends and hear about Jesus.

It gave us great pleasure at our Awards Evening back in May to be able to Commission Chris Wheatley as a Girls' Brigade Officer. Chris joined GB here when she was an Explorer and has moved up through the sections, fully participating in the life of the Company here. We are delighted that she has made the decision to accept the privilege, responsibility and commitment that is needed to become an Officer. We pray that God will bless Chris as she works for Him within this GB Company and in her other areas of service.
Our summer programme activities have been going well. The Explorers & Juniors started the session with a 'bring a friend' party and it was great that 7 new girls came on that evening, 4 of whom have now joined us on a regular basis. There were over 30 girls down for that evening – a great encouragement and challenge to all the leaders and helpers. The week after, all sections enjoyed fun and games with the BMS Action Team – thanks to them for leading our evening activities. With outings to Boxley Abbey, swimming, games in the park and a walk among the other activities planned we are all having a good time. We round the session off with a family picnic in Mote Park.

Outside normal meeting times our activities include camps, outings and events.
For young people in Year 7 and over, we have a joint marching band

'The Knightriders'

Those old enough are encouraged to participate in young leaders training
and the Duke of Edinburgh's Award scheme.

We are always looking for new girls to join us.
