Roots and Fruits

We are planning a second Roots and Fruits nurture group. Starting on Monday 23rd February in Room 1 for six weeks until March 30th.
If you think you would benefit from looking at the basics of Christian living and linking up with a prayer/discipleship partner then this could be for you. To find out more or to discuss the possibility of joining us speak to Jo Thurgood (674634) Helen Harman (204606) or Nic Weller (200483). Places will be strictly limited. The Roots and Fruits group was set up to support and encourage people to deepen their relationship with God and each other. As a follow up from Alpha, the sessions have been designed to help  transform 'converts into disciples', to help bring believers on from the point of merely being saved by Christ, to a living committed Christian life, whilst growing as a Christian should.

The 6 week course starts with a social (including much food) and continues with weekly talks and discussions on prayer, Bible study, the need for fellowship, the guidance of the Holy Spirit, leading us into an ever-increasing fruitful Christian life and witness. Much experience is shared amongst the group, both advice and insight, the mountains, the valleys, the dry seasons and the harvests.
Some of those involved have grown significantly over this period and have decided to continue to meet up with other members regularly to discuss and share their personal growth. Real brotherly and sisterly love and concern, being played out and displayed in both a practical and real way.

One hopes that in the next 12 months those involved in 'Roots and Fruits' will look back at it, and its effects on our person, and recognise the small Christ-like changes that have occurred in our personal life because of it.
God willing, we would like to run another course in the autumn, and would welcome all who wish to improve their personal relationship with Christ, so that their roots do indeed go deep and their fruits ripen and can be seen.

Speak to, or catch up at church with, Nic Weller, Jo Thurgood, Helen Harman, or Matt Collier, if you would like to know more.

.....and views from two participants
When the idea of Roots and Fruits was mentioned at a church meeting, I thought what an answer to prayer, as a group like this is much needed to be on hand to encourage people who have just taken that step of faith. I had no idea of what would exactly be involved, but now after attending the six meetings I can only say that they have been fun, very informative,  and enabled all of us to get to know each other better. This in turn has helped us to share with each other the highs and lows of our Christian life, and it is important to be able to do this in order to continue growing in our faith.

As the article in July's Knightrider Street news suggests, this is not necessarily just for new Christians. I think there is a need for each and every one of us to be able to pair up with somebody, to share the highs and lows of our walk with Jesus, and most importantly - somebody to pray with. If we were to do this more - encourage each other, how much as a church would we grow and flourish - just like well tended Roots and Fruits.

From day one it has been a very spiritual experience. Meeting and sharing our love of Jesus while bonding with each other has really deepened my relationship with our Father, Jesus and made me more aware of the Holy Spirit.

Every week we discussed and learnt more about each other and the different parts of our ministry:- Prayer- Reading the Bible - communion - Holy spirit - Living as a Christian; all areas that we have so much to learn about.

We enjoyed reading, learning, talking, sharing, praying, listening, eating, sharing communion, these are just some of the things we did together.

I have Buddied up with a wonderful person who I can share and, grow in faith with, I know this wouldn't have happened, had we not had this opportunity to meet up for a few weeks and got to know each other. I know that I could turn to any one in the group as we have all grown together over the weeks and become very close.

I would, like to THANK, God for this fabulous gift of 'Roots and Fruits' and all those that gave their time and experience to help us draw closer to the Lord!. Long may it continue and I pray that more and more of us will have this amazing experience. My confidence as a christian has grown so that I feel so close to our Father and Jesus that I am more aware of his voice and presence around me.
Cod Bless. Kymm.
